Discovering God’s Will for My Life (Part 4)

We are deep into looking at discovering God’s will and how to know His will for your personal and unique life. Let’s start with this thought…

God’s will is more concerned about your “who” than your “do.” God wants you to “be” in His will, not just “do” His will. Listen carefully, who you are determines what you do. Your behavior and decisions are a reflection of who you are. Your character determines your choices. Who you are influences what you do. Someone once said, “When a person behaves a certain, believe them.”  This is why God’s will is more concerned about your “who” than your “do.” If you get the “who” right, then you will get the “do” right. Finding God’s Will for My Life (Part 3)

How do you make major decisions? Like what house to buy, who to date, should you date, who to marry, should you marry, remain single, should you leave your spouse, should I have kids, what job to take, should I leave my job, what college to go to, what church to join, or what to do with your retirement years, go on that mission trip, become a missionary, start that ministry? I just wish God would make it simple and clear. “Hey God, you spoke clearly through a donkey, you spoke clearly through a burning bush, you spoke clearly by writing the ten commandments in stone, and you spoke clearly in a still small voice. Can you send me an email from heaven or leave me a clear message on voice mail or send me a text telling me what to do?”

God does do something similar to that, spiritually speaking, if you know where to look. He will make His will very clear, but you will have to apply faith and faithfulness to what He tells you. Continue reading

Finding God’s Will for My Life (Part 2)

Let’s start with this truth, If you seek God’s will, He will put you in the right place at the right time. You will be the right person, at the right time, in the right place, doing the right thing, for the right reason and that’s called righteousness.

The best place for you to be is in the center of God’s will. When you are seeking God’s will and following His guidance with faithfulness good things happen, pleasing things happen, and perfect things happen. And how do I know that? Because of what God tells us in His Word in Romans 12:2, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect” (NLT). If you seek God’s will, He will put you in the right place at the right time. It will be good, pleasing, and perfect. That doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy, but it will be good, pleasing, and perfect. The best place for you to be is in the center of God’s will. Finding God’s Will for my Life (Part 1)

One of the most common questions I am asked as a pastor is some version of this question, “What is God’s will for my life? What does God want me to do?”  This question shows up in many ways.

  • “Hey, I’m praying about whether I should take this new job, but if I do, I have to move to another city. How do I know what God wants me to do?”
  • “I have been dating this person for a while, should I marry them or not? What does God want me to do?” or “I’ve been dating this person for a while, I don’t know if I should continue the relationship or breakup of with them. What does God want me to do?”
  • “Does God want me to go to college close by or to this other college?”
  • “Does God want me to join this church or that church?”
  • “What does God want me to do about my kids?”

What to Expect this Year

God is not going to waste this coming year with you. God is going to do something significant in your life. I’m not a prophet, but I can with great confidence say that this year God is going to try to teach you about love: loving Him, loving others and loving you. These lessons on love will come from God’s Word, be illuminated by the Holy Spirit, exemplified by Jesus, and experienced in real life.

These lessons on love will cover five aspects of love.

  • How to receive God’s love
  • How to express love to God
  • How to love others
  • How to receive love from others
  • How to love yourself

God is going to work on those five aspects of love in your life. God is love and He wants you to be like Him. Let’s begin by defining what love is and then unpack each one. What is love? The Bible describes four different types of love. Continue reading

God: Faithful, Gracious, Powerful (Luke 1:57-66)

Right now, the kingdom of darkness is trying to get you to doubt and distrust God. The devil wants you to believe you cannot count on God and that God is not trustworthy. The world wants you to think God does not care and is not interested in your life. Your own sinful nature wants you to believe that God cannot do what He says He can or will do. The devil knows if He can get you to doubt God and His Word then he has won the battle over you, the rest will be easy for him. Continue reading
